ABOUT US
HE KŌRERO ANŌ MŌ MĀTOU

Volunteer lifeguards patrol the beach from December through March on weekends with paid lifeguards, usually from within the club, providing a service on weekdays during the Christmas school holidays.

Lifeguards are tested annually in swimming skills in the sea, timed swims in the pool, CPR, and surf knowledge.   They also attend training courses to become skilled in First Aid, CPR, radio operation, the use of IRB rescue boat and other small craft.

OUR COMMUNITY
E TAUTIAKI ANA I TŌ TĀTOU HAPORI

We are proud to have served the community and visitors to Ōtaki since 1953.  Whilst we have performed many rescues in the surf at Ōtaki Beach, our core goal is to perform preventative actions and provide first aid & emergency care. Our lifeguards are also called out for land and sea searches from time to time. They are active in beach education programmes with local schools and also give talks/demonstrations to interested groups.

Nō te tau 1953 i tīmata ai tā mātou manaaki i te hapori o Ōtaki me ngā tūwaewae ka tatū mai, me tō mātou paku whakahīhī i tērā āhua. Ahakoa tokomaha ngā tāngata kua whakaorangia e mātou i te karekare o te tai, arā kē tā mātou whāinga matua, ko te kawe ake i ngā mahi ārai aituā me ngā mahi whakaora ohotata, kia hoki haumaru atu ai a tūmatanui mā ki ō rātou kāinga i muri i te kaukau me te pārekareka ki tātahi.

I ngā mutunga wiki o te raumati, ko ō mātou toa kaumaru tūao ērā e tūtei ana i te ara o Hinekirikiri. Ka āwhina anō rātou i ngā akoranga tahamoana i ngā kura o te rohe, ka kauhau/tuku whakaaturanga hoki ki ōna anō rōpū whai pānga mai. Waihoki, he wā anō tonoa ai kia whai wāhi ki ngā kimihanga tāngata ki uta, ki tai.
